Survey Study for Analyzing Trend Data of Seoul Metropolitan Government¡¯s Mental Health Centers

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective : This survey study aims to analyze the trend of Seoul Metropolitan Government¡¯s mental health infrastructure (budget, facilities, personnel, etc.) and registration target status for the purpose of: 1) providing basic reference, which can be utilized in establishing Seoul Metropolitan Government¡¯s mental health policies; and 2) developing key indicators of mental health infrastructure status.
Methods : This survey study was done on around 170 mental health centers supported by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in April 2016 and March 2017 through a questionnaire composed of 28 detailed items in 6 fields and some data collected from Mental Health Information System of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. (¡Ø This study conducted year-on-year comparison of mental health center status in 2016 and 2017 and contains analysis results of some part of questionnaire items)
Results : In 2016, Seoul Metropolitan Government¡¯s mental health budget rose 6.7%, mental health center figures increased 1.2%, mental health center employee figures grew 2.3%, and mental health specialist figures increased 2%, whereas registration target figures decreased 25.6% and suicide death committed by registration targets declined 42% from 31 cases to 18 cases. As for mental health problem type of registration targets, psychotic disorder (F20-29) accounted for 45%, mood disorder (F30-39) 34%, and behavioral and emotional disorder of children and adolescents (F90-98) 11% as of 2016.
Conclusion : While the Seoul Metropolitan Government¡¯s mental health budget, mental health center figures, mental health personnel figures are showing quantitative growth, the growth rate is on a downtrend. Further studies shall be conducted based on this study results to derive statistics of proper infrastructure supply compared to demand, which may help the Seoul Metropolitan Government to establish well-grounded mental health policies.
